A Message From Claire Huschen
Some of you may or may not know that we experienced a loss earlier this year. We were expecting our 3rd baby. When I found out that I would no longer be giving birth in September I was heartbroken. However, I decided to do something for myself. When you become a mother, you give up so much of yourself and I am hoping to regain part of what I have lost by pushing myself beyond what I ever thought was possible by running a full marathon.
Let’s be real- I was a chubby kid and I hated running. I dreaded the 1 mile run and during high school sports I would find ways to get out of running drills. However, when covid hit, I found solace in running. Come to find out in my 30s, I actually don’t mind running.
When I had researched best marathons to run for a first-timer Chicago was the obvious choice, however I missed the cutoff and needed to find a charitable home to run on behalf of. When I was scrolling through the non-profits- Gilda’s Club was the obvious choice.
My best friend lost her mom to Cancer and Gilda’s was there for her. The support and friendships that she received and made have been unparalleled. I know firsthand that Gilda’s has positively impacted so many people's lives. I feel grateful for the existence of Gilda’s Club, should I or my children need their services, I am so glad they are there.
Please join me on my journey by supporting Gilda’s as I achieve this milestone.
