A Message From Allie Parker
As many of you know, I spend a lot of time running. Running has been a huge support mentally and physically for me while dealing with my family's battles with cancer. My mom, cousin, dear friend's mom, aunt, and my grandfather have all bravely faced or are facing a battle with cancer. Some of them were lucky enough to beat it, some were not. I lost my mom to cancer when I was only 10 years old. She battled cancer for 3 years. The love and encouragement we received as a family while facing that battle I cherish even now almost 20 years later.
When looking ahead to Chicago’s Marathon I decided I wanted to give back. I wanted to sponsor an organization that values community support in such a challenging battle. Gilda’s Club Chicago is a place where anyone whose life has been impacted by any type of cancer, as well as their families and friends, can feel they are part of a welcoming community. They focus on building a bond that is stronger than cancer.
Please consider donating to Gilda. If you want to make a donation in honor of someone I will write their names down and carry them with me throughout the marathon.
