A Message From Sara Sirignano
Ten years ago, we lost my Uncle John to cancer. John defied the odds, outlived and exceeded every expectation they placed on him, and maintained a powerful grace despite being faced with the unimaginable. He was a proud Chicago resident and a powerhouse of a man, and his loss was earth-shattering to everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing him. I'm running this one for him, in the city that he loved and lived in with his wife and sons.
In addition to my Uncle John, I'm running in honor of my Uncle Karl, my Aunt Cheryl, and my Aunt Barbara - three individuals who shaped me to my core and fought cancer like champions for as long as they could. Each of them shaped me as an individual in their own right, and this race means even more to me, their legacies tied to each mile.
Team Gilda raises money to ensure that anyone impacted by cancer, or the family members of those who are, have access to community and support. They provide essential but often overlooked services, including counseling and companionship. Most importantly, they bring a lot of joy into the lives of those who are forced to endure a truly devastating, isolating, and dark situation. Your donation helps to make sure that those critical services are available 24/7 for anyone impacted by any type of cancer.
