A Message From Priscilla Villavicencio
Thirteen years ago, after my youngest was born, I started running. My goal was simple then: lose the pregnancy weight and get back into clothes with actual buttons. I wasn't expecting to fall in love with running. Honestly, it's hard to believe anyone could with the early mornings and miles and miles of what can seem like endless road. But, as a young mom, I found running helped me clear my mind and be more present as a parent. As my kids got older, I was able to start training for races. I started simple with some fun, local 5ks. Winning age group metals made me feel pretty cool and soon I was hooked with competitive racing. Slowly, I progressed to 10ks, half-marathons, and finally the prestigious marathon race. This upcoming Chicago Marathon will be my 5th marathon in 5 years. As you can see from my picture, I ran it once before in 2023. I've completed New York City in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
There is a big commitment that comes with marathon training including four months of early mornings and running over 40+ miles a week. It can be hard to stay motivated. So I felt I needed something special to keep me going and decided on fundraising. There were so many wonderful charities to choose from but Gilda's Club Chicago stood out.
Since opening their doors in 1998, Gilda's Club Chicago has uplifted and strengthen people impacted by cancer by providing support, fostering compassionate communities, and breaking down barriers to care. From their main Clubhouse, their partner hospital sites, and community and faith centers to their virtual Clubhouse and website that can be accessed 24/7, they provide a wide range of support services, including counseling, educational workshops, support groups, and social activities.
Please consider helping me reach my goal by donating to this wonderful organization ❤️ Thank you.
