A Message From Sayard Bass
Well...I'm back again...third time is the charm...or maybe I have a running problem. Last year's marathon was something next level. I dedicated miles to people I know and knew who have had to fight Cancer. I put quotations from Gilda on my gels and cracked myself up every time I needed to fuel. (“Well Jane, I thought I was gonna die! I’m sitting there minding my own business, when all of a sudden, BAM — I got a sock stuck in my throat!”)
That's what I love about this charity. You can be in the middle of something hard. Hell, I CHOSE the marathon. But, you can be in the middle of something hard and a smile, a laugh, someone cheering you on with a sign with an inappropriate joke, it gets you through. That's why I feel Gilda's Club is so important.
Just last week I learned of another person who has meant something to me who was diagnosed with a form of Cancer...ugh. There's not much you feel you can do, right? I chose to go for a run. Anything that can bring a good moment, I am down for so let's raise some money to get some programs to help people get through their days!
And I can run...it's pretty funny to watch. This year I'm feeling hype. Any donation, drop me a song for my play list. I'll be baking all year long, donate a little more, let's say $50 and I may make an effort to send you something (lithium ion batteries be damned, I will send you some banana bread), if you are more local I'll have some treats for you. Over $100 - you can put a logo anywhere on me...you will have to choose though, last year I proved I could not be trusted with placement of iron ons (IYKYK).
My running community keeps me going, and I know from people who shared with me last year, Gilda's Club kept them going...community is stronger than cancer.
