A Message From Elliott Wright

This year, I’ll be running my first-ever marathon. Marathons were never something I thought I’d be interested in, but after watching my brother run the Chicago Marathon last year, I was inspired to challenge myself to do something that only a small number of people accomplish. Marathons also run in my family — my father, Larry Wright, completed dozens of races, including the New York City Marathon. I’ve decided to raise money for a charity that is especially meaningful to me: Gilda’s Club Chicago. Gilda’s Club uplifts and strengthens people impacted by cancer by providing support, building compassionate communities, and breaking down barriers to care. Three years ago, my father was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. It was a tough battle, and I saw firsthand how critical support systems are during treatment. Without the love and dedication of my mom and our family, the journey would have been even more difficult. Organizations like Gilda’s Club make a real difference for families facing the same fight, and I am honored to support their mission. This marathon is also a personal challenge — a way for me to push myself beyond what I’ve done before. My father taught me the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve them. Running this marathon in his memory feels like a meaningful way to carry that lesson forward. I’m excited to begin training and fundraising for such an important cause. If you’re able, please consider donating using the link below. Your support means so much — to me and to families like mine.
