A Message From Angela Jaycox
It is now or never! After nine years of running, including four years at the collegiate level, I am finally checking the marathon off my bucket list! I have the pleasure of taking on this challenge with Gilda’s Club to raise money for an organization that provides free critical support to individuals and families impacted by cancer. Gilda’s Club exists to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
Growing up, I watched my mother battle cancer, and I saw firsthand how deeply it affected not just her, but our entire family and circle of friends. During this time, we had friends, family, and volunteers we didn't even know offering their time to care for my siblings and I while my mother was in treatment. There support took many forms from tutoring, cleaning, cooking, and driving us wherever we needed to be, while my father was working. The way these individuals showed up for my family, completely free of charge, has a lasting impact on our lives. Cancer effects daily life, emotions, relationships, and having a place for support, understanding, and connection can make an incredible difference during such an overwhelming and uncertain time. It is important to me that all families touched by cancer can have the free resources of community, love, and support the way my family did.
The money raised through this run helps fund Gilda’s Club programs through support groups for patients, caregivers, and loved ones; professionally led educational workshops; healthy lifestyle and wellness classes; and programs specifically designed for children, teens, and families. These services provide comfort, community, and practical tools to help people navigate life during and after cancer treatment.
Every mile I run is for families facing this journey right now, and every donation helps create a space where people feel supported, understood, and never alone. Thank you so much for supporting this cause and being part of this journey with me. I look forward to seeing you all at the finish line!
