A Message From Arden DeCanio
Twenty-five years ago my dad had bleached hair and cancer. Somehow, both are hard to picture now. This year, as we celebrate 25 years of recovery, I’m honored to be running the 2026 Chicago Marathon for Team Gilda.
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what 25 years actually means. It’s all the regular life stuff we got to have because he made it through. The family movie nights, bad jokes, random runs for Wendys frostys. The older I get, the more I realize how much of my life exists in those ordinary moments with him. Hitting this milestone is huge, and I can’t think of a better way to honor it than by doing what I love.
Team Gilda supports people and families going through cancer through community, connection, and most of all, love. I’m proud to fundraise for an organization that means so much to us and others.
If you would like to donate to Team Gilda, I would be incredibly grateful to bring a community around such a great cause. Most of all, though, I want to make my dad proud.
