A Message From Kennedy Harris
Three years ago, I ran the Chicago Marathon for Gilda’s Club Chicago. On October 11, I get to do it again. ✨
In 2023, I shared some of the reasons I was running: both of my parents are cancer survivors. I’d lost my cousin to colon cancer earlier that year. My best friend was navigating melanoma—a journey that continues through her recovery, ongoing checkups, and everything that comes with life after cancer. And people I love continue to carry the loss of parents and loved ones to cancer.
Three years later, those reasons haven’t become any less meaningful. And unfortunately, there are new ones. Today, someone I care deeply about is watching their father face a devastating battle with cancer.
If anything, these last three years have made me understand even more deeply that cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed. It touches entire families, friendships, and communities.
Training for 26.2 miles is hard. There have been runs this season when I’ve been exhausted, hurting, and wanted nothing more than to stop. But I get to choose this hard thing. People facing cancer—and the people who love them—don’t.
That perspective is not lost on me.
So, three years later, I’m running for Gilda’s Club again—to help make sure people impacted by cancer have access to community, resources, and support when they need it most.
If you’re able to donate—whether it’s $5, $50, or simply sharing this post—I would be incredibly grateful. ♥️
26.2 miles. One more time. For all the same reasons—and so many more.
